Mission

Planting the Seeds of Future Builders

Urban Seeds Learning helps children see the places they live as something they can understand, question, and help shape.

We believe the best learning happens when kids get their hands on real projects. Through a design lens, children explore every subject by sketching, building, testing, and talking through their ideas, just like an architecture studio. Along the way, they build confidence, creativity, and a deeper connection to their community and the natural world.

Our goal is to make education for project-loving families a place where curiosity leads, every child’s way of learning is respected, and kids grow into thoughtful builders of the world around them.

We Believe

Notice

Every sidewalk, park, and rooftop is a lesson. We help kids slow down and really look at the spaces around them.

Question

Why is this building shaped this way? Who is this park for? Curiosity is where good design starts.

Reimagine

Kids sketch, model, and build their own ideas by hand, including the messy first drafts and redesigns.

Grow

Nature and community are part of every project, because great places are made for people and the living world around them.

I didn’t set out to start a learning center. I set out to find the right way for my son to learn.

While earning my master’s in urban design at Cal Poly Pomona, I took graduate courses in architecture and loved seeing how every space connects to the world around it. My son loved it too. He built models alongside me, hands busy and full of questions, and those projects became some of our favorite time together.

Around then, we began homeschooling, and I paid close attention to how he learns best. The answer was clear: hands-on, project-based work. But the learning centers we tried never quite hit the mark.

I kept coming back to the design lens, the idea that everything around us is intentional. Once you see that, the world looks different. A street corner, a park, or a building from another century can tell you how people lived, communicated, and connected.

Urban Seeds Learning grew from that idea, here in Whittier, where I’ve lived my whole life and where our homeschool journey began.

My vision is to bring this design lens to every subject: math through measuring and scale, science through materials and the natural world, history through the buildings and eras that shaped how people lived, and writing through describing and presenting our ideas. Like an architecture studio, we create, talk through our work together, and spend a field trip week each semester exploring architecture up close.

My hope is simple: that kids learn to really see the spaces around them, and to know they can help shape them.

Happy building,
